STAR PROGRAM
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Joint Apprenticeship Training and Journeyman Upgrading Program is proud to announce the implementation of the STAR PROGRAM as part of a positive means to encourage our members to participate in education and training classes. STAR is an acronym for Safety Training Awards Recognition. STAR is a safety incentive program that serves to improve safety awareness by rewarding safe work habits and the participation in continuing safety education programs. The trustees of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) have appropriated fifty thousand ($50,000) dollars to be put towards some pretty spectacular awards and the recognition ceremony. This should make for a memorable event for all eligible participants.
Members can become eligible to receive awards and recognition for their safe work habits and participation in health and safety or skill enhancement training classes by meeting the following criteria:
1). Must register with the JATC office for courses they will take throughout the qualifying period by calling (301) 918-3175,
2). Must attend at least two of the training courses being offered by the JATC
3). Must work a minimum of 800 documented hours for a contributing signatory employer without a loss time accident beginning July 1, 2008 and running through June 30, 2009.
4). Must be a member in good standing at the end of the training cycle, July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009, and be in attendance at the annual awards ceremony.
Glaziers Experiencing Tremendous Work Opportunities
The building boom in the Washington region has created a number of work and career opportunities for qualified glaziers. District Council 51 contractors have an abundance of work and the projected outlook is still excellent. A number of our contractors are currently looking for Lead men, Foremen, Curtainwall and Storefront installers, as well as, Shop fabricators for glass and architectural metal.

Painters and Drywall Finishers Needed
The shortage of qualified manpower around the region has provided some great work opportunities for qualified painters, drywall finishers and foremen. We have immediate positions available with our signatory contractors. This could be the opportunity you have been looking for.
